Frequently Asked Questions

When you get in touch, we will discuss your problem and the difficulties it is causing you. I will ensure hypnotherapy is a suitable treatment for you, and give you information on how I will be able to help. If you would like to progress with the treatment, you will be able to make an appointment with me at a time which works for you. I will send you a questionnaire to complete with your personal details and any relevant medical history, and we can go through this information in detail at your first session.

The state of hypnosis is likely to be something you have already experienced in your daily life. It is the same feeling and process which you experience just before falling asleep and waking up.

This being said, hypnosis is a personal experience which many experience differently, and the experience and depth of hypnosis might also vary for you on different occasions. Some people may not even feel that they have been in this state, but the suggestions will work equally no matter how you experience it. Most people enjoy the experience of hypnosis, and find themselves feeling relaxed, alert and positive afterwards.

This is not true. There is no risk that you will get in any way ‘stuck’ in the state of hypnosis, and you are free to awaken at any time. If it was necessary, such as in an emergency, your conscious mind would alert you straight away. I will always take the greatest care to ensure you are fully alert and comfortable before you leave the session.

It is common to remember the overall experience of the treatment, at the very least, but this will vary from person to person. Some people will remember every detail of the treatment. The treatment is equally effective no matter how much you may remember, and I will always be there to support and guide you through it.

You will need to make a full commitment to engage with the therapy, in order to achieve your hopes and ambitions.

I will sometimes also ask you to do a small amount of homework between your sessions, with your agreement. This will help you to practise and retain your new behaviour and thought patterns, ensuring our work is fully embedded to make positive, permanent changes.

Hypnotherapy is a short-term therapy, which means that you will need a short number of sessions, rather than ongoing support. In general, most clients will require between 3 and 6 sessions to make the positive change they hope for. The exact number of sessions will vary depending on your circumstances and the issue you would like us to work on, and I will be able to give you more detail on this at your initial consultation.

Hypnotherapy can treat symptoms of a wide range of mental and physical conditions, as well as unhelpful thought patterns and behaviours. It would only be unsuitable for a small number of conditions. If you have any doubts or concerns, please do get in touch and I will be happy to explore these with you.

I am continuing to offer hypnotherapy in-person or online via video call. My face-to-face sessions follow all current Covid-19 guidelines, and take place at the Headstrong Wellbeing Centre in Leicester.

On the other hand, you may feel more comfortable attending an online appointment. These are almost identical to in-person treatment, from the comfort of your own home. All you will need is access to a quiet space and the technology to receive an online video call.
